Creating a healthier community in North Philadelphia... and beyond

About Us

Our Purpose

We provide our Latino Community and BEYOND with a Christ-Centered Institution that delivers effective treatment, leading individuals to long-term recovery and complete wellness.

We are committed to restoring and empowering people through holistic approaches by offering high quality counseling, education, and supportive services.

our founder

Rev. Birma Montes was a pastor, social worker, entrepreneur, wife and mother. As an immigrant from Puerto Rico she came to Philadelphia with the hope of starting a new life for her and family. Birma herself had dealt first hand with the frightening and life altering consequences of addiction within her own family. Losing her brother and nearly losing her husband to alcoholism, she was on the brink of walking away from everything.

Our beginning

But God met her and not long after accepting Jesus into her life, her husband began his recovery process. What God had graciously given to them–true healing–fueled their desire to start CASA. After 6 years working in a broken social service system that bypassed the real needs of people, Birma decided she needed to be part of the restoration that helped her and her family in their time of need. In 1993, with the help of community neighbors, doctors, pastors, and other professionals she birthed CASA.

Our Motivation

In 2020, Birma went on to glory, but she did not leave empty handed. Her legacy of gratitude to a God who saw her and gave her a new beginning is our BIG WHY. Her family continues to serve with that same sense of gratitude, knowing that His help and healing is available to everyone, no matter who you are, where you have been, or what you have done.

Your CASA of new beginnings

ViSION AND CORE VALUES
To provide a network of culturally informed behavioral health services that together create a healthier community in North Philadelphia and beyond.
Family

CASA is more than a place, it is a community of people that see your value, your purpose, your pain, and your potential. Family sticks together and we will walk together with you through this journey.

Holistic

We believe that God created us whole meaning we have a heart, a soul, a spirit, and a body.  Our drive is not just sobriety, it’s complete wellness. Adding components to treatment that seek to address all the parts of your life that addiction has ruined.

Compassion

Compassion helps us understand you better. It opens the ears of our hearts to hear the tune of your needs.

Culturally Informed

CASA seeks to bridge racial and ethnic divides that keep people from receiving services that are important to their health. At CASA we think the cultures represented in our neighborhoods should reflect our treatment teams and leadership to better communicate with participants and connect to their needs.

Integrity

The Quality of what we do is equally important as the love it’s packaged in. Making sure the professionals you meet are learning and innovating in order to deliver Evidence Based Treatment Interventions that are proven to work.

Treatment Process

CASA offers its series of programs in both English and Spanish. Speaking in a person’s preferred/first language enhances progression and provides a sense of relief and comfort throughout recovery.
